Tutorial - JavaScript SDK, engine and decision provider
Run a typed Touba skill and agent from JavaScript, read business messages, and handle a real authority refusal. This example needs the Touba distribution, Node.js 24 and npm, but no network service or paid model.
The path is: application → ToubaEngine → CLI → governed runtime → handler. The SDK does not replace the runtime's authority checks.
1. Install the project SDK
In a macOS/Linux terminal, install the archive shipped with Touba, not a nonexistent public npm package. See SDK installation.

3. Implement the handler and host binding
Only the handler receives the explicitly authorized credential. The test checks its presence without displaying or returning it. This is a local demonstration, not a call to a credential-protected external service.

The agent scope and tool binding both authorize the secret. No key value belongs
in source, inputs or traces. This read-only handler declares an explicit
effect_contract: { kind: "none" }.
4. Connect a deterministic decision provider
This provider correlates the observation with the requested arguments before answering. It does not impose a one-use limit on the capability. A new request can execute the same authorized skill again.

The credential above is an isolated demonstration value, not a production key.
Expected: SDK_RESULT_MESSAGES_AGENT_AND_REFUSAL_OK.
run.status and run.reason describe the actual outcome, run.result the
business value, run.messages the user-facing messages, and run.trace the
execution evidence. run.pendingInteraction exposes a pending interaction when
present. A pause, refusal or stop must not be presented as completed work.
Execution and process failures throw ToubaEngineError; inspect details
without indiscriminately logging inputs or environment variables.
Supply exactly one of source, air or airJson per run. Reuse an engine
within the same project. For external writes, supply effectJournal and declare
the real effect contract; see effects and recovery.
6. Use a model provider
Replace the provider path with this file and set OPENAI_API_KEY in the host
environment. This optional path makes billable network calls. The credential
used by the decision provider is separate from the handler's demo secret.

The helper uses the structured interface by default. For model-native function
calls, see native calls under Touba authority.
The generic createAiSdkDecisionProvider accepts an actual model object from
an explicitly installed AI SDK provider. Neither helper grants authority:
the runtime checks declarations, callers, signatures, grants and secret scopes.
Exercise the optional real model
With OPENAI_API_KEY configured, set TOUBA_TUTORIAL_LIVE=1 before these commands. This branch uses the same typed agent and handler, without replacing the model response.
